Lemon Lounge @ Brain Child Festival
to Jul 15

Lemon Lounge @ Brain Child Festival

This year we’ve opened up the festival to a group of audiophiles and artists from Suma Sound and Tangy Events. Together we have curated The Lemon Lounge – a new area coming to the festival this year comprising of a zesty big top tent and geodome workshop area.

The lounge will house the crews’ hand build sound system, with a music program of DJs focussing on sound system music. Daily open deck sessions will also invite everyone to come spin some tunes. Programmed DJs will then take us through until nightfall, giving an opportunity for DJs from the Shack and the Kite Bar to come and play an alternative set, along with the crew’s own esteemed wax collectors.

A selection of workshops and talks will take place in a lovingly crafted coppiced willow dome, from pottery to jam making and impromptu talks.

There might be a few acoustic late night surprises too… Come and get lemon with us and find out!

Deep End Dubs - Alpha Steppa
to Jul 1

Deep End Dubs - Alpha Steppa

Deep End Dubs returns to the friendly & multicultural underground haven The Birds Nest for a bass music special! Taking a small break between sessions at The White Hart, we'll be taking advantage of bird's nest intimate performance space and unusually large & bass-heavy PA to host an extended live set from the legendary Alpha Steppa.

Free entry all night. License extension till 230am.

The son and nephew of respected dub heavyweights Alpha & Omega, Alpha Steppa has been surrounded by soundsystem and dubplate culture from a young age. Over the years he has established himself to be a formidable digital dub and steppas producer and collaborator, releasing a series of heavy singles and sonically exploratory albums, and collaborating with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Gregory Isaacs, Lutan Fyah and with Alpha & Omega as Dub Dynasty.

Support comes from Sash Kuttah who will be gracing us with some heavy steppas selection and DE Dubs residents Mr Gibbon & Rai Wong will be opening it up into other spectrums of bass/dub/reggae.

Flamingods House Party

Flamingods House Party

We're super excited to be teaming up with The House of St. Barnabas to throw a free party with some heavyweight DJs in support of The House of St. Barnabas Charity.

Some background on HOSB:

The House of St Barnabas is a charity pledging to break the cycle of homelessness and social exclusion in London. They run a social enterprise, a not-for-profit members’ club, to help the people they support back into lasting paid work. Their Employment Academy offers accredited qualifications, on-site work experience, real job opportunities and mentoring. The House of St Barnabas are seeking to redefine the notion of a members’ club, to challenge stereotypes around the idea of exclusivity and to create a different kind of membership. The club is a creative, socially conscious and vibrant space.

As always, you know what to expect from us: Psychedelic grooves, Global exotica from Bollywood to Turkish disco, Polish jazz, Bulgarian funk and everything in between.

Join us and our friends:

Paradise Bangkok
Lexus Blondin
Pig & Rig
DJ Coco Maria
DJ Clam

Reggae n That feat. Sash Kuttah & Melton John

Pig&Rig presents ‘Reggae n That’ – an eclectic showcase celebrating the rich history & diversity of reggae & other genres of vintage black music. From Studio 1 originals to current producers & releases, ska & rocksteady to heavy roots & hypnotic dub they’ll be no corner untouched! With an exceptional line up this is an event is not to be missed. Now every first Friday of the month!

Holding our foundation of reggae music for the event, we will also be exploring other areas of vintage black music including rhythm & blues, rare groove, soul & hip hop.

Line Up:

Special Guest:

The brains behind ‘Covers: Retracing Reggae Record Sleeves in London’ Sash has an eclectic collection of mystical dub and tangled roots! He graced the stage at ‘Silence of the Hams’ and smashed it, looking forward to what he brings to the table for Reggae n That, not to be missed!

See his project here: https://www.creativereview.co.uk/alex-bartsch-retracing-reggae-record-sleeves-photographed-london/

Special Guest:

Big boi Melton is back on the line up once again to peel out his infamous box of tasty fresh releases. ‘In a steppa style’ as our boy Meton would say…classic Melton. All seriousness, be prepared for a tangy set from the original roots master!

A familiar face around Brixton, Reuben Vibes has been raving on Villa Road and the area from the early 70’s until now! Had his first debut in 15 years at the first ‘Reggae N That’ last month and blew us away! From 80’s dancehall to vintage rare groove & R&B Reuben has got a collection to be feared – you may also know him as Kwaku, the site manager of Pop Brixton, Reuben Vibes is not to be missed!

+ Mr. Gibbon for general zest.
